WALNUT, noun A tree and its fruit, of the genus Juglans. The black walnut so called, grows in America, and is indigenous in the southern and middle states, as far north as the Hudson. That is said to be the limit of tis indigenous growth, gut when transplanted, it grows well in the eastern states. In America there are several species of hickory nut, called by this name.
