Am″pe‐lite (ăm″pē̍‐līt), n. [L. ampelitis, Gr. αμπελἰ̑τισ, fr. ἄμπελοσ vine.] (Min.) An earth abounding in pyrites, used by the ancients to kill insects, etc., on vines; — applied by Brongniart to a carbonaceous alum schist.
