An″ther (�), n. [F. anthère, L. anthera a medicine composed of flowers, fr. Gr. � flowery, fr. ανθεἰ̑ν to bloom, ἄνθοσ flower.] (Bot.) That part of the stamen containing the pollen, or fertilizing dust, which, when mature, is emitted for the impregnation of the ovary. — An″ther‐al (�), a.
