‖Pel″ta (?), n.; pl.Peltæ. [L., a shield, fr. Gr. πέλτη.] 1. (Antiq.) A small shield, especially one of an approximately elliptic form, or crescent-shaped.
2. (Bot.) A flat apothecium having no rim.
