I. "forcible, violent", ἔργα βίαια Od.; β. θάνατος a "violent" death, Hdt., Plat., etc.; ὁ πόλεμος β. διδάσκαλος is a teacher "of violence", Thuc.:—adv., βιαίως "by force, perforce", Od., Aesch., etc.; so, πρὸς τὸ βίαιον id=Aesch.
