I. "oily, shiny with oil", acc. to the custom of oiling the skin in the palaestra, Od., Ar., etc.
2. "oily, greasy", Ar.
II. of the skin, "shining, sleek", Lat. nitidus, λιπαροὶ πόδες "bright, smooth" feet, without a wrinkle, Il.; λιπαρώτεροι ἐγένοντο Hdt.; λ. στῆθος Ar., etc.
III. of condition, "rich, comfortable, easy", Lat. nitidus, lautus, Od., Pind.; so, λιπαρῶς γηράσκειν Od.
IV. of things, "bright, brilliant, costly, splendid", Hom.
V. of soil, "fat, rich, fruitful", Lat. pinguis, Hhymn., Theogn.; λιπαραὶ Ἀθῆναι, a favourite epith. with the Athenians, prob. with allusion to the Attic olive, Pind., Ar.
