Etym. ὠφελέω

I. "help, aid, succour, assistance", esp. in war, Thuc.; τὴν ὠφ. παρέχειν τινι id=Thuc.; ὠφελίας τυγχάνειν id=Thuc.; οὐ μετὰ τῶν κειμένων νόμων ὠφελίας not "for such assistance" as is consistent with the laws (ὠφελίας being = ὠφελίας ἕνεκα) id=Thuc.
