Xerophthalmia

‖Xe′roph‐thal″mi‐a (?), n. [L., fr. Gr. �; ξηρόσ dry + � the eye. See Ophthalmia.] (Med.) An abnormal dryness of the eyeball produced usually by long-continued inflammation and subsequent atrophy of the conjunctiva.
